6 Things to Know Before Booking in Pioneer Square

  • The “After Dark” Reality: Pioneer Square is Seattle’s oldest and most historically charming neighborhood, filled with ivy-covered brick buildings and art galleries. However, it can feel gritty and desolate late at night when there isn’t a game on. While generally safe, there is a visible homeless population near the parks and transit entrances. I recommend taking an Uber back to your hotel at night rather than walking alone.
  • Stadium Strategy (Silver Cloud vs. Embassy): If you are here for a game, location is everything. The Silver Cloud is located literally across the street from T-Mobile Park (baseball) – you could hit the stadium with a rock from the pool. The Embassy Suites is just north Lumen Field (football/soccer) and is the more upscale, full-service option with a massive atrium bar that becomes “Ground Zero” for fans on game days.
  • The “Game Day” Price Surge: Hotel rates here are dynamically pegged to the sports calendar. If the Seahawks, Mariners, or Sounders are playing – or if there is a major concert at either stadium – prices at the nearby hotels can double. Always check the event schedule before booking; if you aren’t attending the game, you will find much better value in Belltown or South Lake Union on those dates.
  • Transit Headquarters: This is the best connected neighborhood in the Pacific Northwest. King Street Station (Amtrak/Sounder trains) is located here, making it the perfect base if you are taking the train to Vancouver or Portland. It also sits on the central Light Rail line, giving you the fastest airport access of any neighborhood.
  • Train Noise Warning: Because the neighborhood is a transit hub, it is noisy. Hotels near King Street Station (especially the Best Western Plus and Silver Cloud) are close to active train tracks. While the Silver Cloud has excellent soundproofing, you will still hear the occasional whistle. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the tracks or the stadium.
  • Gateway to the Islands: Pioneer Square is the closest neighborhood to Colman Dock (the ferry terminal). If you plan to take a day trip to Bainbridge Island or Bremerton, you can walk from your hotel to the ferry in 5–10 minutes via the new pedestrian bridge at Marion Street, avoiding the hills you’d face coming from downtown hotels.
